Supporting DENR-BMB against the IWT
Over the past two weeks Landscape Conservation and PENAGMANNAK have been meeting with staff from the Department of Natural Resources, Biodiversity Management Bureau, in the Philippines, to look at ways of improving the effectiveness of managing live, confiscated animals and plants. Our review will help identify priority areas for action, and focus resources where they are needed most.
We are confident that the findings will help highlight the issue of an increasing number of animals coming into rescue centres, such as the ones in Manila and Cebu City, where large numbers of confiscations means more resources are needed if we are to avoid 'road blocks' and implement best practices, such as appropriate animal welfare standards.
Our final report is due out in February, but keep checking back for updates on this much-needed issue. And check out our web pages on the subject of managing live confiscated organisms here.
